25-01-2017

In 2016, upon the initiative of Mountain Resorts Development Company, Ministry of Education and the Association of Mountain Guides, the Adventure Tourism School was established in Georgia.

The project aims to train and certify Georgian mountaineering and hiking guides, introduce and teach them the European standards. The training course will be delivered by an invited Swiss specialist, Cyril Berco, according to whom, Gudauri is an excellent place for such trainings.

“I am glad to be here today. We are working on a new school, which helps to find new guides in Georgia and train them. Our main goal is to teach and train the participants and introduce them to the European Standards. We have found very interesting, determined and motivated students. Currently, we are conducting a 10-day training course. This resort is really a great place for such trainings,"- Cyril Berko noted.

The project will last for 2 years and each training group will consist of 25 students, who will learn and examine Gudauri and its surrounding area, where they will mark the safe directions for tourists.

“We have succeeded in gaining a funding and a 2-year grant from the program of the Millennium Challenge, which will help us to train and certify our mountain guides. There are 25 people in each group. Today, we began a two-week avalanche hazard prevention course in Gudauri, which aims to assess the avalanche prevention in the resort and its surrounding areas in order to mark the safe places for tourists,”- Ilia Berulava, a mountain guide, stated.
