UN Issued Post Stamp in Celebration of 850th Anniversary of Shota Rustaveli
25-05-2018

Presentation of Shota Rustaveli Jubilee Stamp issued by the UN Postal Administration was held at the ceremonial event dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia. Postage stamps are dedicated to the 850th anniversary of Shota Rustaveli.

In the United Nations, the solemn celebration is traditionally marked by issuing of a special postage stamp, the subject of which is based on the national-cultural characteristics of the countries.

This is the first time when the UN issues a special stamp on Georgia’s topic, which is another great recognition of Georgia and its centuries-old history, as well as the contribution of the Rustaveli Gene made by Georgia in the Treasury of World Civilization.

Intensive consultations were conducted between the Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development on the design and content of these stamps. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Georgia and the representatives of the Georgian National Museum also actively participated in the stamp-development process.
