Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, within the framework of his working visit, met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjaev.
“Uzbekistan is an important partner and friendly state of Georgia, and we attach great importance to strengthening the pace of development of cooperation. I hope that the successful holding of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation will give an even greater impetus to the deepening and development of bilateral cooperation between our countries in many directions.” – Levan Davitashvili said.
Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, together with the Georgian delegation, was on a working visit to Uzbekistan, where he participated in the 9th session of the Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Economic Commission.
Speaking with his Uzbek colleague, Levan Davitashvili gave a special assessment of the dynamics of the growth of trade turnover between Georgia and Uzbekistan in the post-pandemic period and noted that, taking into account the economic potential of both countries, there are opportunities for further development of bilateral trade. Davitashvili highlighted that in 2022, the trade turnover between Georgia and Uzbekistan increased by 40%, and the increase in exports amounted to 30%. According to the Vice Prime Minister, in order to maintain this dynamic, it is important to promote the products of both countries on the markets of Georgia and Uzbekistan, as well as to remove all obstacles that negatively affect the growth of trade.
The parties also discussed economic cooperation prospects in various directions, including the importance of development of tourism, and it was noted that the total number of visitors from Uzbekistan to Georgia was increase by 32% in 2022. They also talked about the Black Sea Submarine Cable project, which both countries pay special attention to.
