Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, participated in the Türkiye Maritime Summit held in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Within the framework of the summit, Tamar Ioseliani took part in the ministerial session titled From Maritime Routes to Integrated Transport Corridors.
In her speech, the Deputy Minister spoke extensively about Georgia’s strategic role and the planned large-scale investments in the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.
“Our goal is to create one of the most efficient multimodal transport corridors connecting East and West. Achieving this goal requires significant investments, regional cooperation, and long-term strategic planning,” noted Tamar Ioseliani.
According to her, by 2032, Georgia will invest approximately 7 billion USD in modernizing its transport network, which includes the development of maritime, rail, road and digital dimensions.
The Deputy Minister placed particular emphasis on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the modernization of Georgian Railway, the East-West Highway, the new Tbilisi International Airport and the importance of other transport infrastructure.
As part of the summit, the Deputy Minister met with Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The conversation touched upon ongoing reforms in the maritime sector, the implementation process of international standards and prospect of strengthening future partnerships.
Tamar Ioseliani also held a meeting with Edoardo Rixi, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Italy. During the meeting, the strategic directions of economic relations between Georgia and Italy were discussed, particularly in the transport and logistics sectors. The importance of transport infrastructure development in terms of improving connectivity between the regions was highly emphasized.
Ivane Abashidze, Chairman of the Maritime Transport Agency, also participated in the Türkiye Maritime Summit.
